Okay, so we all know by now that the virus is causing normal life in most parts of the world to come to a screeching halt as schools and other institutions close indefinitely to prevent exposure to and spread of the virus.
But I was personally subject to some unexpected consequences of the Corona scare.
1. Visa interviews at US consulates in some parts of the world have been cancelled because of the Corona threat. Strangely enough, the biometrics appointments, which are presided over by local people in a country prior to the visa interviews, are still on. Any guesses why? Both involve human beings interacting across a glass barrier. In fact, the biometrics appointment includes fingerprinting.
2. I received a message from my credit card company saying if I was affected by COVID-19 in any way, the company would make special arrangements for me. What kind of arrangements? Are they going to waive dues? Maybe I should ask.
3. The other day, when I was taking the bus home from somewhere, I realized I was the ONLY person on the bus. It was a weird feeling. It was as if, instead of my personal chauffeured limousine, I had my private bus with my personal unformed bus driver. The only other thing I needed was my personal, customized bus schedule. And I would be done.
