As a continuation of the previous post, here’s a quick list of things that ARE easy to stock, should the situation arise when you do need a stockpile. Certain items like fresh fruits and veggies are not ideal for storage and it’s a good idea to give them a miss when you are trying to create your personal food bank.
1. Noodles in all forms, shapes and sizes. Yes, you may want to avoid them in your regular diet but they are worth their weight in oranges when we are talking emergencies.
2. Canned food, be it beans, veggies or fruit. Open them and finish everything in one go.
3. Nuts and dry fruits.
4. Grains like rice, quinoa and the like. Just cook a fresh batch when you need it.
5. Vitamin C sachets – this one is probably more relevant in the current situation. A pack of thirty sachets can last from ten days to a month depending on how many sachets you consume in a day. The price is $12.99 and up for a pack of thirty sachets. It doesn’t spoil like a real orange but provides the same nutritional benefits as the real thing.
