The end of the world is nigh

Only a city like Los Angeles could have thought of throwing a veritable bash, sponsored by Facebook, no less, to show concern about the end of the world mediated by human agency. Think climate change, man-animal conflict, social media FOMO (this last was probably not on their list) and you’ll get a general idea of what the agenda – if I can call it that – was.

A lesser town would have had marches with plaques and slogans to raise the tempo of concern for the state of the planet. LA does it differently.

Called the Panic Party, the bash included well-stocked bars and food stalls selling environment-friendly food, and non-stop, adrenaline-pumping music for crowds to dance away their fears with. You could also buy a re-purposed tee for $5 and have the panic theme printed on it.

All in all, a worthy cause to party to.
